Debuted in March and open until October, the Wilton Historical Society's "75 objects, 75 years" exhibit features the "best of the best" from its permanent collections, according to education and programming coordinator Katherine Cachon.
Cachon shared a few of her personal favorites out of the exhibit with Patch on Tuesday, just a few days after the society held a large reception in honor of the exhibit. (See photos above.)
1. Lambert House: This oil on canvas was painted by Henry Grinnell Thomas in 1905. The home was built in 1727, according to Chacon, and is featured on Wilton's town seal. The Wilton Historical Society now owns the building and is home to the popular Historical Christmas Barn.
2. Mrs. Jessie Simcha Jonas Judah (Goldsmith): This oil on canvas was painted in 1794 by Ralph Earl, who according to Erine, is usually well known for "the complexity of his backgrounds." But what what stands out to Chacon in this portrait is the fact that Mrs. Judah is holding a locket that contains a picture of her son.
3. "Tool Corner": In one corner of the wall, patrons can see a myriad of tools from as early as the 18th century. Chacon told Patch that she likes that Wilton Historical Society Facebook followers participate weekly in "What's It Wednesday" where they're asked to guess what one of the tools was used to do. "Some tools are easy for our followers to get while others are stumpers," she said.
The "75 objects, 75 years" exhibition is open Tuesday through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
