Library Donation Box Suffers Five-Fingered-Discount Fate

The following information was obtained from the Wilton Police Department for the week of July 19-25. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

Bye-bye donation box

7/19: The library donation box appears to have been stolen from the library’s lobby area, near the front doors, police reports say. The donation box is thought to have a small amount of cash inside, and is four feet by one foot with a Plexiglas top and a wooden bottom. Reports say that the box disappeared between 7/15 and 7/19.

Bad mechanic

7/24: Police investigated an incident concerning a privately-hired mechanic who was supposed to repair a resident’s broken power-operated window on a vehicle, police said. The resident said that the mechanic, who was found on Craigslist, did not show up to do the allegedly agreed-upon repairs worth $205, police said. The case is pending.

Does not like irrigation

7/21: Police received a complaint that someone had cut into an irrigation hose with a pair of snips, which were found at the scene, in the community garden at Allen’s Field. The complainant requested more surveillance patrol in the area.  

Laptop caper

7/25: Police said several laptops were reported missing from an office building at 50 Danbury Road, otherwise known as Wilton Corporate Park. No further information was available.

Choked

7/24: Police received a complaint that a 31-year-old Wilton man “briefly strangled” a household member during an argument, while also violating a protective order, police said. No injuries were reported. The man was charged with violation of a protective order, strangulation in the third degree and disorderly conduct; he was held on a $5,000 bond. The incident took place on Huckleberry Hill Road.

DUI

7/24: Police said they pulled over a vehicle on Route 7 for driving over the fog line and traveling between 25 and 30 mph in a 40 mph zone. Upon inspection, police said they found the driver, Alexander Wilmer Morales, 23, or Norwalk, to not be in possession of his license and to “have consumed alcoholic beverages prior to driving.” After Morales failed a field sobriety test he was taken in by police, reports say. Morales was released on a promise to appear in court.
