The Wilton Police Department urging residents to report solicitors coming to their homes if they appear suspicious.
The advice to call police comes after the department received a number of complaints over the past few weeks from residents trying to confirm the authenticity of solicitors, said Lt. Donald Wakeman.

Wakeman said several calls concerned persons soliciting as members of a religious group. He said officers have not yet been able to locate these people to question them.
Wakeman said the town generally requires solicitors to obtain a permit. However, religious organizations and certain other types of solicitation don’t require a permit, he said.
