From The Wilton Police Department
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Wilton Domestic Violence Task Force has partnered with the Wilton Chamber of Commerce and participating restaurants/retailers for a new program called Wilton Cares Day to benefit the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC). Wilton Cares Day will be on Monday, October 16, 2017 which launches Wilton’s Fall Restaurant Week! Participating restaurants and retailers will be donating a portion of their proceeds on Wilton Cares Day to the DVCC.
The DVCC is a domestic violence agency serving the communities of Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, New Canaan, Darien, Wilton, and Weston. The DVCC is committed to promoting the fundamental right of all individuals to be safe in their personal relationships. According to the DVCC, per capita the number of clients who come to the DVCC from the community of Wilton is proportionate to clients served from larger cities such as Norwalk and Stamford. The DVCC’s professional staff supports victims of domestic violence every step along the way, within the legal system, with financial concerns or with housing needs with the underlying objective of keeping victims safe. In 2016 and 2017 the DVCC provided service to 75 households in the Town of Wilton. This number includes all DVCC departments that clients accessed, engaged and/or received services from.
