Wilton Library To Host 'Terra-Forming' Art Exhibition By Local Artist

Wilton Library presents "Terra-Forming," a January exhibition featuring landscape-inspired works by Wilton artist Mathew Tucker.

WILTON, CT — Wilton Library will present “Terra-Forming,” a solo art exhibition by Wilton resident and England native Mathew Tucker, beginning Jan. 9, with an opening reception scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the library in Wilton.

The exhibition features a series of paintings that reinterpret landscapes as reflections on humanity’s relationship with the natural world, rather than literal depictions of nature. Tucker’s work explores themes of distance and perception, using imagined landscapes and framing devices such as windows and portals to disrupt traditional pictorial space and challenge viewers’ sense of familiarity.

Tucker was born in Hertfordshire, England, and spent his childhood in several countries, including Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Bahrain and St. Lucia, following his family’s international moves. He studied art and design in England before living and working in London for a decade. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in fine art from Atlantic Technological University in Sligo, Ireland, and a master of fine arts degree in painting from Hunter College in New York City in 2016.

His paintings have been exhibited internationally and published in art magazines and online publications. His work is held in public and private collections in the United States, the United Kingdom and abroad. Tucker moved to Wilton five years ago after working from a studio in Brooklyn and continues his artistic practice locally.

The exhibition will run through Jan. 30. Many of the works will be available for purchase, with a portion of proceeds benefiting Wilton Library. The opening reception is free and open to the public.
Wilton Library, located at 137 Old Ridgefield Road, is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. The library will be closed Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
