Bradley-Area Noise Subject of State Study

Bradley International Airport noise exposure maps were last updated in 2003, but the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is planning to conduct a study of existing noise maps and observe current noise conditions in surrounding communities.

The study's goal, according to Windsor Town Manager Peter Souza, is "to update the noise contours and to address aircraft noise impacts in surrounding communities."

A public informational meeting has been scheduled for 7 p.m. on March 20 at the New England Air Museum.

In addition to examining current noise levels and updating Bradley's noise exposure maps, the study, Souza recently reported in his town manager's report, will generate a five-year forecast for noise. Such information assists officials with determining land use compatibility, said Souza.

The Federal Aircraft Administration established the threshold for "noise-sensitive land uses" at 65 decibels, according to Souza.
