According to police, a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup being driven by a 45-year-old Windsor Locks resident was traveling on I-91 North just south of Exit 38 in the right lane of three.

Schlagel, according to the report, had been traveling behind the pickup.
As a result of the collision, police said, Schlagel was thrown from his motorcycle and was, subsequently, struck by a 2007 Hyundai Sante Fe SUV being driven by a 27-year-old East Hartford man.
The pickup truck operator pulled over and stopped in the right shoulder of I-91, along with the driver of the Hyundai.
The driver of the Dodge was unhurt, while the operator of the Hyundai was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
Schlagel's motorcycle ended up in the swale between the HOV land and the highway, with Schlagel being pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash is still under investigation.
