Good News: Windsor Student Makes History

Windsor High's Chris Traore was honored for his hard work in the classroom and on the football field.

This week, Windsor High senior Chris Traore became the eleventh Warrior to be recognized by the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame for his academic and athletic achievements since the tradition began in 1966.

Traore is also the third Warrior to receive the honor since 1997. Dwight Meggie was recognized in 2011.

Traore was honored during a surprised ceremony held at Windsor High School his week, during which his coach, Rob Fleeting sang high praises of his linebacker.

"He's one of those kids you never really have to worry about. I know his parents have done a great job of raising him. He' never been a discipline problem and he's always doing the right things," said Fleeting at the ceremony.

"This type of event makes me smile because there are very few awards out there that recognize kids for being very good students and athletes. It's very hard to balance the two and he ties it all together."

"I didn't think I was going to win it, so it was a big surprise," said Traore, who spoke of a competitive spirit that has driven him to achieve at high level both academically and athletically.

"It's a tough world out there, you know, and in order to be the best you have to outperform those around you," he said. "I know my parents push me and my coaches push me too, on the classroom and on the field. That's where I get my competitiveness from."
