WINDSOR, CT — The Office of the Inspector General, in conjunction with the Windsor Police Department, is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Jan. 30 near 160 Windsor
Avenue.

Around 8:22 p.m., Windsor Police Officer Brandon Thomas located a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a Tiger Mart gas station. The vehicle, a 2008 Jeep Liberty Sport, had a marker plate that came back to another vehicle. While on scene, two people exited the convenience store and walked toward the Jeep. Thomas approached them and began to ask about the misuse of
the marker plate, whereupon one of them, Geovanni Nunez, 21, ran away, according to the IG's office.

Thomas chased Nunez across Windsor Avenue and into the entrance to Keney Park. During the chase, Thomas yelled, “Stop running or I’m going to ******* tase you.” He then pulled out his actual firearm from its holster and fired one round at Nunez. He then said, “Oh ****, I didn’t mean to do that," according to the IG's office.

Nunez was not hit and was subsequently taken into custody. During the apprehension, Thomas fell into a stream and his body-worn camera became soaked. The recording, however, was able to be recovered, according to the IG's office.

Following his arrest for interfering with police and possession of a controlled substance, Nunez accused Thomas of shooting at him. Thomas denied this and said that he only used his Taser, according to the IG's office.
