Man Taken to Hospital After Weapons Report

Law enforcement officials secured the Copper Drive area of Windsor Locks before encouraging the man to go to the hospital for evaluation.

The North Central Connecticut Regional Swat team and Windsor Locks police peacefully resolved an issue on Copper Drive Sunday afternoon involving an elderly man in possession of firearms.

At about 4:30 p.m. an unidentified person called the WLPD to report that Richard Umberfield, 81, who was possibly depressed, was in possession of two handguns, according to a Windsor Locks police news release. Umberfield was staying in an in-law-type apartment at 39 Copper Drive, according to police.

Windsor Locks officers and members of the regional swat team responded to the neighborhood and established communication with Umberfield, ultimately resolving the issue without incident, according to the release.
