Windsor Locks Cops, Schools Budgets Cut in New Budget Proposal

Following the rejection of the Windsor Locks board of finance's budget proposal in a June 4 referendum, town officials went back to the drawing board, adopting a series of cuts that included reductions in both the police department's and the board of education's requests for funding.

The cuts were adopted the morning of June 8 during a special meeting of the board of finance.

The cuts adopted are as follows:

  • A reduction of $200,000 drawn from the town's undesignated fund balance
  • A reduction of $280,000 in the board of education's request
  • A reduction of $200,000 in the police department's request
  • An unspecified cu of $25,000 to general government
The cuts bring the mill rate increase down to .46 from 1.25.

Regarding the .46 mill increase, Finance Chair Con O'Leary said, "That seems to be a nu ber I dont's see how any reasonable person can complain about."

A second referendum will be held on June 18.
