Aspiring Chefs Heat Up Competition at Juniper Village at Newark

Local High Schoolers Serve Up Original Recipes in Intergenerational Culinary Competition

Steam rose from four distinct soups as culinary students from Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Technical High School transformed the premier senior living community, Juniper Village at Newark’s dining room into a tasting venue. Juniper residents and local community members gathered to sample innovative recipes while live music drifted through the community, marking an afternoon where student ambition met seasoned appreciation.

Four talented culinary students showcased their creativity and culinary expertise by selecting and crafting their own soups, including cream of crab, shrimp bisque, lasagna soup, and potato bacon. Under the guidance of their culinary arts instructor Chef Scott Cave and assistant principal Michael Paoli, each dish highlighted their skills and added a delicious variety to the event. As guests sampled the delicious soups, soulful music performed by Ralph James created a warm and inviting atmosphere, making the event even more enjoyable.

“The event was fantastic,” shared Carol, a resident at Juniper Village at Newark. “It was wonderful to see students engaging with myself and the other residents.”
