About the Redding Consortium & the Proposed Redistrict Plan

Find out what's happening in Wilmingtonfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

The Redding Consortium for Educational Equity, a subset of the Wilmington Interagency Collaboration, is a state body created in 2019 to recommend policies and practices to the Governor and Delaware General Assembly for all Pre-K to grade twelve students in the city of Wilmington and northern New Castle County. One of the primary responsibilities of the Redding Consortium, as mandated by House Bill 222, is to address school redistricting. Currently, three redistricting options are under consideration:

  1. Two-District Option: All City of Wilmington schools will be divided between Brandywine and Red Clay School Districts.
    1. Colonial and Christina will no longer serve students from the City of Wilmington.
    2. Northern New Castle County will still consist of 4 districts - Brandywine, Christina, Colonial, and Red Clay School Districts
  2. Metropolitan Wilmington District Option: All schools from Brandywine School District and Red Clay Consolidated School District, as well as the 4 City of Wilmington schools from Christina School District (Bayard, Pritchett, Pulaski, and Stubbs), will merge into one new school district called the Metropolitan Wilmington District.
    1. Colonial and Christina will no longer serve students from the City of Wilmington.
    2. There will only be 3 districts in Northern New Castle County - Colonial, Christina, and Metropolitan Wilmington School Districts
  3. Northern New Castle County Consolidated District Option: All schools from the four districts (Brandywine, Christina, Colonial and Red Clay) will merge into one district called the Northern New Castle County Consolidated District.
    1. There will only be one District in northern New Castle County.

According to the established timeline, Wilmington Interagency Collaboration plans to engage the community through a series of public meetings and surveys for feedback. In January 2026, The Wilmington Interagency Collaboration plans to submit one Redistricting Plan to the State Board of Education for consideration. Any approved changes are expected to be implemented between 2028 and 2033.
