FL Man Accused Of Molesting Child, Attacking Deputy: Sheriff
Samuel Shirk, 20, of Fort Lauderdale is facing several charges, including sexual assault on a child, authorities said.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — A south Florida man accused of sexually assaulting a child attacked a deputy while in handcuffs, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said 20-year-old Samuel Shirk, who goes by his middle name Austin, was arrested Sunday. Deputies said the young victim's family contacted BSO the day before in reference to the allegations, which quickly prompted an investigation.
According to the sheriff's office, Shirk is accused of committing sexual assault and lewd and lascivious molestation on a child in the victim's home. Detectives said they believe the incidents, which also include video voyeurism, occurred over several months this year.

After being questioned by detectives at the BSO Public Safety Building, deputies said Shirk asked to use the restroom.
After using the restroom and re-entering a holding cell and while handcuffed, Shirk attacked a BSO deputy, investigators said.

According to the sheriff's office, as the deputy screamed for help, a BSO detective rushed to assist her. Both BSO employees were able to subdue Shirk and place him in a holding cell.
Deputies said Shirk, who is from Fort Lauderdale, is now facing additional charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer, attempting to escape and obstructing or depriving an officer of means of protection or communication.
Based on Shirk’s involvement with children, detectives said they are concerned there may be additional victims in the community.
