FL Teen Electrocuted After Stepping On Downed Power Lines After Crash

A 17-year-old teen boy died after leaving his car and stepping on downed lines after striking a power pole, Florida Highway Patrol said.

DESOTO COUNTY, FL — A Florida teen has died after touching downed power lines following a weekend crash.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, a 17-year-old boy from Arcadia was driving a Ford Mustang east on Southwest Robin Road near US-17 in Desoto County when he veered off the roadway while approaching a curve.

Troopers said as he left the roadway, he drove into a grass shoulder and struck a power pole.

A large portion of the power pole and power lines fell to the ground, troopers said.

After the crash, the teen driver got out of his car and touched the downed power lines, electrocuting him.

Troopers said he was pronounced dead at the scene.
