Florida Woman Arrested After Driving Golf Cart On Interstate: Police
The woman smelled of alcohol and was charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer without violence.
BREVARD COUNTY, FL — A woman was arrested in Florida on Saturday after police say she was driving a golf cart on Interstate 95 in Brevard County while she smelled of alcohol, according to an arrest report obtained by Patch.
Diane Hawk, 58, is charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer without violence, according to the report.
Hawk was driving the golf cart northbound in the center lane near mile marker 167 when a semitruck driver used her trailer to guide her to the side of the road. The driver told police she saw Hawk passing out while she was driving.

The semitruck driver took the keys to the golf cart and later gave them to a Brevard County Sheriff's deputy, authorities said.
Hawk was "disoriented" and gave a Florida Highway Patrol officer a restaurant card and a credit card when asked for her license before being told by the officer which card in the wallet to choose. Hawk also was slurring her speech, and the officer smelled alcohol on Hawk's breath, according to the report.

Hawk told officers she was trying to get to SR 528 and that it was legal to drive a golf cart on the interstate because she "saw it on the news," authorities said.
She refused multiple requests to move from the golf cart to a patrol car, and she was arrested after police found an open bottle of whiskey in her bag. Hawk was "argumentative and combative" and physically resisted multiple attempts to arrest her. Police did not administer field sobriety tests because of safety risks stemming from her resistance, according to the report.
Hawk was taken to Brevard County Jail and has since been released, according to jail records.
