Listeria Outbreak With Unknown Source Has Killed 1, Hospitalized 22
Though a food source for the outbreak is unknown, most people reported living in Florida or visiting the state prior to falling ill.
FLORIDA — One person in Illinois has died and nearly two dozen people in several states have been hospitalized in a Listeria outbreak, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which has not yet determined the source of the outbreak.
Most of the people who have fallen ill either live in Florida or were visiting the state around a month before they got sick. So far, 23 people have reported illnesses with 22 hospitalized, according to health officials.
Of the 23 patients, 12 live in Florida and two each live in New York and Massachusetts. Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota, Georgia, Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey each have one Listeria case. Health officials warned that the outbreak might not be limited to these states because some people recover from Listeria without treatment or testing.
