PLANTATION, FL — A badly emaciated dog left to die in a dumpster has been rescued and is getting the care it desperately needs, according to a Florida pet rescue group.

"Thank God someone heard him crying," Mutty Paws Rescue in West Palm Beach Florida posted to Facebook. "We have cried, and we are angry. How could anyone do this to a voiceless animal? He took the last bit of strength he had to cry just loud enough for someone to hear him."

"We do know that Mushu has white gums as well, is very underweight and we are waiting for blood work to come back. Right now he does have a high WBC which shows infection or toxins," the pet rescue group said. "He is still too weak to stand for more than a few seconds but, boy, he is a fighter! He will remain hospitalized until further notice to receive the care that he desperately needs."

Mutty Paws Rescue is accepting donations to help pay for Muschu's medical care. Donations can be sent to this link.

A $5,000 reward is also being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for throwing Muschu in the dumpster. Mutty Paws said it is also working with Crime Stoppers to increase the reward with their own funds.

"We believe the person responsible for this heinous act of animal cruelty to Mushu lives in a surrounding neighborhood very close to the dumpster he was found in," the pet rescue group said.

Anyone with information on the person who dumped Mushu in the dumpster can leave an anonymous tip to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477). They call also call the Plantation Police Department at 954-797-2100.
