Friendly Fishing Trip Ends In Fatal Shooting At Ruskin Home

A 56-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting in Ruskin Friday night.

RUSKIN, FL — A 56-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting in Ruskin Friday night.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested John Skeen in Polk County and charged him with second-degree murder with a firearm.

According to sheriff's reports, on Friday, three friends were staying at a home in the 300 block of Manatee Drive in Ruskin for a fishing trip. That evening, they went to a local bar and returned home where Skeen got into an argument with the victim around 10 p.m.

During the fight, the sheriff's office said Skeen fired a gun, shooting the victim in the upper body. Despite life-saving measures by deputies, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

"What should have been a fun fishing trip filled with great memories turned into a tragic weekend," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Violence is never the solution to a disagreement. Our hearts are with this victim's family and we hope this arrest will bring some sense of closure to the loved ones."

Skeen was arrested for Second Degree Murder with a Firearm in Polk County.
