4 Teens Arrested While Trying To Steal Bradenton Vehicle: Watch

There has been an uptick in thefts of Kias and Hyundais in the Bradenton area in recent months, police said.

BRADENTON, FL — Four teenagers were recently arrested while driving stolen cars and trying to steal a third vehicle in the Bradenton area, authorities said. (Watch surveillance footage video from the attempted theft below.)

Their arrests came after an uptick in Kia and Hyundai thefts in recent months, Bradenton police wrote in a Facebook post. Since August, there have been 12 thefts and 14 attempted thefts of these vehicle makes.

“These cars are targeted because they don't have an immobilizer, an anti-theft device that prevents it from starting when someone tries to use a key that doesn't match the car,” police said.

Kias from 2011 to 2021 are especially at risk of theft. Some owners are eligible for an anti-theft software upgrade and/or steering-wheel locks, the department said. More information is available online here.

“We encourage ALL drivers to park in well-lit areas and, if possible, near security cameras. Always lock your vehicle and never leave valuables or guns in your car,” police said.
