40-Year-Old Bradenton Man Killed Crossing Street

BRADENTON, FL — A 40-year-old Bradenton man died after he was struck by a Mercedes Tuesday night while attempting to cross the street. Florida Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 8 p.m. at 26th Street West and Cortez Road.

FHP did not immediately release the name of the man who was killed pending notification of his next of kin.

The driver of the Mercedes was identified as 37-year-old Ronald Bowens of Sarasota. Bowens was traveling with two children, ages 7 and 11.

Troopers noted that other northbound traffic in front of the Mercedes was slowing down for the pedestrian prior to the collision. The Mercedes changed lanes prior to the collision, according to FHP.

Florida Highway Patrol said alcohol was not a factor in the case of the driver. The Bradenton man was taken to Blake Medical Center.
