5 Things You Need to Know Today: August 9

Look for postcards from the school board, the County Commission is set to award a contract to manage its golf courses and Freedom Village will recognize partners in education

1. will set its legislative priorities at its meeting that begins at 9 a.m. today. The county will use the priorities to set its agenda and lobby legislators during the next law-making session in Tallahassee. Also on the agenda, the county  is set to award the contracts to manage its two county to Pope Golf, Inc. LLC, a Sarasota company.

2. Be on the lookout this week for a postcard from the . The postcard will contain information for parents and students on the school bus stop for their home and the pick-up and drop off schedules.

The   is offering an exhibit on the amazing artwork created by the children at the Center’s KidsArt summer camp, ages four to 15.  Each session the students and teachers have worked together to select a piece for the exhibit.  Don’t miss the colorful students’ work using pottery, photography, jewelry design, drawing and painting.  The ArtCenter will host a reception and party on Friday from 5 p.. to  p.m.

4. will hold a work session on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in City Council chambers. Council members will go over the city's 2011-2012 budget.

5. The 21st Annual Business and Education Partnership Awards Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. at The awards recognize and honor businesses and organizations that have worked to enhance education in Manatee County. More than 200 businesses have partnered with local schools. They have provided countless volunteer hours and support to Manatee County students.  The Awards Breakfast is sponsored by Freedom Village, with support from Digital Image Business Solutions and Tropicana Products.
