5 Things You Need To Know Today: January 24
The Downtown Development Authority meets this morning, students who competed in the science fair this year will receive recognition Thursday and local non-profits are competing for free fuel.

1. The County Commission meets today at 9 a.m.
2. Your votes will help determine which local charity will receive free gas through CITGO's Fueling Good program. Through February 9, you can vote for the nonprofit you want to win. Two Manatee County non-profits — Manatee County United Way and Manatee County Search and Rescue — are in the running for the free fuel. Visit fuelinggood.com to vote daily for their charity of choice. Select Florida and Manatee County to find Bradenton's local charities.
3. The Downtown Development Authority is set to meet at 8:30 a.m. in the city council chambers at Bradenton City Hall. Executive Director Dave Gustafson will offer an update on downtown projects and Public Art Coordinator Ann Wykell will discuss the public arts projects that are in the works.

4.This is the final week to catch the Manatee Players production of Happy Days. The musical version of the television sitcom plays through Sunday. Performances are Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $11 for students. Reserve tickets by calling 748-5875 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and one hour before curtain on performance days or on the Manatee Players’ website. All performances are at 102 Old Main Street.
5. Manatee County’s most promising young science students will receive special recognition when The Lockheed Martin Manatee Regional Science and Engineering Fair holds its awards ceremony at on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. More than 270 Manatee District science and engineering students competed for awards in 14 scientific categories as part of the Science and Engineering Fair held at the Manatee County Fair. A team of 50 area science and engineering professionals evaluated the research projects and selected the winners for special honors. Local winners will advance to compete at the State Science and Engineering Fair to be held April 3 to 5 in Lakeland.
