5 Things You Need To Know Today: January 26
It's a great weekend for soccer, Hemingway is at the Crosley and the county wants your help in spending $1.9 million.

1. Major League Soccer team DC United is practicing and training at the and Athletic Edge Sports on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch through the weekend. Their practice sessions and scrimmage games are free and open to the public. The practice schedule through the weekend follows: Today, 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. at PSC and 3 p.m. at Athletic Edge Sports; Saturday, 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at PSC; Sunday, scrimmage game against the Chicago Fire at 2 p.m. at Florida Gulf Coast University.
2. will host the United Soccer Leagues PRO Combine also today through the weekend. Nearly 60 players from the USL Player Development League players looking to transition to the pro ranks. Players will be divided into six squads, with each team playing three matches over the duration of the event. There will also be testing, team training sessions, and two sessions devoted solely to goalkeeper development.
3. It's a weekend for Hemingway at the Crosley. Showtimes are Jan. 26, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 28 and 29 at 2 p.m. In the show, Gwendolyn Crosley invites Ernest Hemingway into her home for performances of some of his best-loved works. Hemingway will be joined by a few of his literary counterparts, along with some special guests from the silent silver screen. Tickets are $20 for evening shows and $15 for matinees if purchased in advance. Tickets for children 12 and under are $10. Tickets purchased at the door will cost an additional $5. 4. Neighborhood Services Department officials want community input as they plan to spend $1.9 million in Community Development Block Grants. The county will host two community meetings today to ask residents how they would like to see the money spent. The meetings will be held today at the , 1301 Barcarrota Blvd. W., from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and at the , 6081 26th St. W., from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, call Suzie Dobbs at (941) 749.3029, or e-mail her at suzie.dobbs@mymanatee.org.
5. The Senior Enrichment Center at is hosting its annual Open House on Monday from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be offered, with wine and beer available for purchase. Guests can learn about existing activities, classes and events, and are encouraged to suggest new ones. They will also have an opportunity to meet instructors. The Senior Enrichment Center at Renaissance on 9th offers classes like Ballroom Dancing, computer, Tai-chi and aerobics, as well as activities like card games, scrap-booking, billiards, day trips, and special holiday events.
