Want to be in a television commercial? Bealls has launched a contest to find the next star of its ad campaign.

1. The is expected to set the proposed tax rate for the upcoming year during this morning's meeting. The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. in . The city is facing a $866,000 revenue shortfall partly because of declining property values.
2. Developers have filed a court petition against the City Council in an effort to get a judge to overturn the council's decision to allow a three-story apartment building on the city's waterfront. The city council denied the project in May after developers changed plans to bring a mixed use project that included restaurants and retail. The City Attorney is likely to update the council today on what options the city has in this case.
3. Euphemia Haye sous chef Jamie Gregorich made it through the first week of Hell's Kitchen with little drama on her part. She was on the winning women's team and did not face elimination. The Manatee High School graduate joined the women to crush the men in the kitchen challenge after losing to the men in a beef grilling challenge. The next episode of “Hell’s Kitchen” airs 8 p.m. July 25 on Fox.

4. Bradenton-based has launched a contest to find the star of its next television commercials. Anyone 13 and older (with parent's permission) can upload a photo to the Bealls website to enter the "Bealls Be a Star Casting Contest." The person who gets the most votes will be cast in a Bealls commercial. The contest began on Friday and Bealls will continue to accept photos until August 31. Voting begins on August 8. 5.The , 1301 1st Ave W, is hosting a family game night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Families are invited to participate in video games, card games, and classic board games at the library.
