5 Things You Need To Know Today: November 11

Government offices closed today, time to pull out the sweaters and area restaurants offer veterans free meals or appetizers.

1. No need to check the mail today. All federal state and local government offices are closed today in recognition of Veterans Day.

2. Don't miss your chance to salute a veteran at beginning at 10 a.m. at the Manatee County fairgrounds and ends at Lamb and Sutton Park.

3. The Military Wallet has put together a master list of businesses that offer deals and free meals to Veterans today. Remember to call ahead and bring your military I.D. or proof of military service. Restaurants include: Applebee's: free meal to military veterans and active-duty service members. There are seven meals to choose from, check out their Veteran's Day menu online. Hooters: all day Friday, Free 10 free wings (boneless or traditional). Chili's Grille & Bar Restaurant: free meal for veterans between 11 and 5 p.m. Outback Steakhouse: free Bloomin' Onion and soft drink.

4. Tickets are on sale now for a performance by Sarasota's Ditchfield Family Singers who are bringing their Christmas show to the on December 14 for one matinee performance at 2 p.m. They present a variety of Christmas favorites, performing as many as 25 Christmas Concerts throughout the Southeast each December. The annual Ditchfield Family Christmas Show has become one of Sarasota's favorite holiday traditions. Tickets are $25 for adults and $11 for students.

5. Pull out your jackets this morning. Temperatures are expected to dip into the 40s and the wind will make it feel even chillier as today's parade nears the waterfront.
