5 Things You Need To Know Today: November 16
The Literacy Council and First Bank will hold the annual fall book sale Saturday, Manatee County residents have an opportunity to stuff the bus this weekend and Lincoln Middle School offers a free workshop for parents and family members looking for a job.

1. The City Council meets today at 8:30 a.m.
2. Lincoln Middle School parents and family members can attend a seminar about resume writing, preparing for job interviews and where to look for employment in Manatee County at the school Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The workshop is free and there will be free childcare and food available for participants. Representatives from Ad-VANCE Talent Solutions, Inc. will be on hand to provide workshop attendees with expertise and advice on seeking employment. Workshop participants will also be eligible for door prizes provided by the Tampa Bay Rays, the United States Marine Corps, Smoothie King and Bob Evans Restaurant. Parents and family members who would like to attend need to RSVP today by calling Kelly Wootten at 721-6840, ext. 2008.
3. The Literacy Council of Manatee County and offices in Manatee County have worked since the summer to collect books for the Literacy Council’s Fall Annual Book Sale. The book drive culminates Saturday with the annual fall book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First Bank’s Village Green branch located at 7051 Manatee Ave. W.

4. Manatee County locations are offering a new free magazine all about food. "The Town Taster" features reviews of restaurants and other food destinations. The magazine is all about eating great local food. Magazine co-founders Valerie and Lenny Longo want to promote local businessess that contribute to the local economy.
5. This weekend the will partner with , , FM radio stations 106.5 CTQ and 92.1MYfm and the United Way of Manatee County for the annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign to benefit . Manatee District school buses will be parked in front of all Publix locations from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday in an effort to get residents to stuff each bus with non-perishable food items to be donated to The Food Bank. Last year, the Stuff the Bus event collected more than 84,000 pounds of food. This year, the goal is to collect more than 100,000 pounds. This year’s “Stuff the Bus” theme for the School District is “Kids Feeding Kids.
