5 Things You Need To Know Today: November 3

The City's lawn signals the coming season, Village of the Arts to host festival during artwalk, De Soto National Park seeks volunteers.

1. Halloween is over and it is time to turn back your clocks this weekend. There is no surer sign of this changing season than the city's Christmas decorations which are already going up. Check out the front lawn at to see Santa's sleigh,  a Christmas tree and more.

2. The Sarasota-Manatee Bach Festival opens its fourth annual program celebrating Bach’s music, Friday at 7:30 p.m., at 4030 Manatee Ave. W. Tickets are $15 for adults, $7 for students and are available in advance from the church office, or at the door. For more information, call Christ Church at 941-747-3709.

3. will host a Festival of the Skeletons during its artwalk on Friday and Saturday. The Day of the Dead-style event featuring a large community shrine, individual shrines and altars, an interactive memorial fence, Mexican music and food and unique painted skeletons. This year's community shrine is dedicated to Elvis. An Elvis plaque  "In Memory of the King" will be sold to benefit the Artist Guild of Manatee. The walk begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

4. is looking for volunteers for its Winter Luminary Festival. The trails of De Soto National Memorial will be lit up with holiday luminaries on December 17th. The park needs volunteers to help with set up and break down for the event, act as costumed escorts along the trail or to help with other functions and operations needed throughout the night. The Luminary walk takes place on at 6:30 p.m. Volunteers gain experience in event planning, living history and National Park Service operations.
