Zombiefest is a go, R.B. "Chips" Shore will run for re-election, Geraldson Community Farms to host an open house on Saturday and the weekend will feature breast cancer awareness events.

1. The approved Zombiefest for 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 29th on Old Main Street in downtown.
2. R.B. “Chips” Shore, who has served as Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller since 1977, will run for re-election in 2012. In announcing his re-election bid, Shore talked about his accomplishments such as pioneering a pilot program to provide online access to public court cases. Shore has also partnered with the Judges of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit to design and launch an application that uses artificial intelligence to provide electronic access to court files to the Judges while in the courtroom. This initiative is expected to save millions of dollars and free court resources.
3. will host a on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.to help fight cancer and raise awareness about healthy living in young people. The event was scheduled during breast cancer awareness month and will benefit breast cancer awareness as well as raise money for The V Foundation for Cancer Research, started in 1993 by NC State basketball coach Jim Valvano. Shoot Out participants will shoot 150 free throws while raising money based on donations contributed. Anyone can be a part of the event by pledging per free throw, giving a lump sum or by signing up to participate.

4. , 700 Haben Blvd. Palmetto, will host a reception Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for its OctoBra event to benefit breast cancer awareness. Students have decorated bras as art. Sponsorships and sales benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Suncoast affiliate.
5. will host an open house Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids can have their photo taken on a tractor, climb in the hay bale
pasture, collect moths to protect the plants and plant a butterfly garden. There will also be farm tours on the half-hour, a beekeeping discussion at 10 a.m. and a hydroponics lecture at 11 a.m. Learn about worm composting. Shop at the farm market.
