5 Things You Need To Know Today: October 19

Anyone interested in Manatee County's no-kill efforts can find out about the effort tonight at 6 p.m.

1. If you're interested in Manatee County's efforts to become a show up at the downtown library at 6:15 p.m. today to share your ideas and gather information. Animal advocates have organized a meeting to discuss the steps to become a no-kill, discuss the county's needs and volunteer opportunities and to gather ideas from people in the community. The informal meeting ends at 7:45 p.m. and people are welcome to come and go.

2. Realize Bradenton kicks off its season of Concerts today at 11:30 a.m. "Passerine," a band with a fresh take on traditional folk and bluegrass music as well as a repertoire of original songs will perform at the Historic Courthouse downtown. Rennaisance on 9th will offer boxed lunches for sale. The concert is free, but Realize Bradenton is accepting donations of non-perishable food items for the Food Bank of Manatee.

3. The Farmers Market is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today near the Neel Performing Arts Center off 26th Street and 60th Avenue West at the SCF Bradenton campus.

4. Manatee County Parks and Recreation is celebrating the 9th Annual Goblin Gathering Friday at 6:30 p.m. at . The event includes a costume contest, face painting, hayride, bounce houses, and an 18-foot inflatable slide.

5. Sweater weather (we're not talking wool) has come to the area. Expect some rain today and cooler temperatures.
