5 Things You Need To Know Today: October 24

School board meets tonight, get details on the Wares Creek dredging project Tuesday at 6 p.m. and the Manatee County Commission is expected to discuss fees for sewer, water and trash collection at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

1. The School Board will meet at 5:45 p.m. today and will celebrate students who have been named semi-finalists for the national merit scholarship. The Sales Tax Accountability committee is also expected to present its first report in three years.

2. The Manatee County Commission meets Tuesday at 9 a.m. Fees for trash pick-up, water and sewer are set to be discussed. The County Commission redistricting plan is also on the agenda.

3. A special meeting on the Phase I of the dredging project will take place Tuesday at 6 p.m. at , 912 18th St. W., Bradenton. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the project contractor and Manatee County Government staff will discuss their role in the flood control project. There will also be a question and answer session following the presentations.

4. Expect to see higher than normal tides this week as the sun and moon align to produce a from Sarasota Bay north to Tampa Bay.

5. The Hanbury Haunted Barn promises full on Halloween entertainment and perhaps a fright or two. The haunted barn is designed to raise money to help with the county's no-kill efforts. All of the proceeds from the $5 admission to the Hanbury Haunted Barn, 1703 Palma Sola Blvd., benefit the Gulf Shore Animal League. The haunting will take place Sunday and Halloween night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
