Sheriff's office steps up DUI patrols, Humane Society offers an adoption special on cats and construction on Manatee Technical Institute is progressing quickly.

1. The Traffic Unit of the Manatee County Sheriff's Office will participate in a Halloween DUI Enforcement Campaign beginning today through Nov. 1. The Halloween enforcement program is sponsored by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and the Florida Department of Transportation. For the next week, DUI and other traffic enforcement will be stepped up around the county, including a DUI saturation patrol on October 28. The Florida Highway Patrol, Bradenton Police, and Palmetto Police will also participate in the campaign.
2. Today is the 90th anniversary of the 1921 hurricane that left Sarasota Bradenton and the Tampa Bay region devestated.
3. The walls are up on the new Manatee Technical Institute building at the new campus across from Braden River High School.

4. The Humane Society of Manatee County (HSMC) is offering a $25 adoption special for all cats 6 months and older through November 30, 2012. All cats are spay/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. They also come with 30 days of free pet insurance. To view cats now available for adoption, visit the Humane Society.
