5 Things You Need To Know Today: October 3
The school board to hold a redistricting workshop, Bradenton's SWAT team working to raise money to attend competition and the Anna Maria Oyster Bar raises nearly $53,000 for charity.

1. The Manatee County School board will hold a public workshop at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday to discuss redistricting options for board seats. The School Board is redrawing the lines to make each district as equal in population as possible.
2. The Music Program will present its first concert of the 2011-12 academic year at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Neel Performing Arts Center, 5840 26th St. West. The Fall Festival of Music, featuring music from classical to jazz, will include Concert Choir and Chamber Choir, directed by Melodie Dickerson; Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo, directed by Marc Mannino; Guitar Ensemble, directed by Rex Willis; and Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra, directed by Robyn Wilkes. The SCF Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra also will perform a work featuring solo organist Michael Edward Stuart. Stuart is an alumnus of Southeast High School, SCF and Baylor University. He was recently featured in a world premiere performance at the Regional Convention of the National Guild of Organists in Atlanta. General admission is $8. 3. A community rummage sale and raffle will take place on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the to help the city's SWAT Team raise money to attend an annual competition and training in Orlando. The Swat Round-Up International Competition takes place in November. It offers members the field’s most recent education and training. More than 1,000 tactical operators from across the globe are expected to attend. Bradenton SWAT wants to send an eight-man team but the City's budget contraints mean it is unable to cover the entire cost of the trip. 4. There is an opening for a Bradenton representative on the Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Citizens Advisory Committee. The committee provides the MPO input to the transportation and planning process from a citizen’s point of view. Committee members are selected to represent a cross section of the citizens of the Manatee-Sarasota region. The term is for three years. Meetings are the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the MPO offices at Airport Commerce Center, 7632 15th St. E., Sarasota. Visit the MPO’s website for more information. The representative will be appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Bradenton City Council.
5. The 11th Annual Charity Golf Tournament held last week at IMG Academies Golf & Country Club raised nearly $53,000 for the Anna Maria Island Community Center, , (MOTS), and The Manatee Education Foundation – Academic Achievement Scholarships. Golfers from Manatee, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Orange, Broward and Polk Counties participated. Larry Bennett’s Team had the winning combination of Larry Bennett, Jim Hartman, Jeff Haskell and George Harris. Second place was awarded to the team from the Sarasota Kennel Club including Jerry Shivener, Jack Collins, Dame Pannell, and Josh Stevens. Don Mega, Rick Lencioni, Duke Fenton and Todd Ziegler of Team US Food made up the third place foursome. The Anna Maria Oyster Bar is also proud to announce that their 11 tournaments have raised more $605,000 for local charities.
