5 Things You Need To Know Today: October 5

Register today to bowl in Saturday's breast cancer fundraising event,

1.Today is the deadline to register to participate in the Bowling for the Breast Cancer Cure fundraising event. On Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.   will host the bowling event. For just $15 participants can rent bowling shoes and bowl two games all while contributing to the cure. There will also be a raffle and auction at the event.

2. will host a "Mamm and Glamm" today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. You can get a mammogram and also enjoy refreshments, paraffin treatments, and a makeover. Call 1-888-359-3552 for more information.

3. The Fisher Family of Fisher Honey Bees from Land O Lakes will be at the on Saturday to answer questions and share their knowledge about the secret lives of honey bees. The program includes a PowerPoint program at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.,  a “Crush & Strain” honey extraction demonstration at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.  An Observation Hive will be on view from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with honey products available for purchase.

4. This is the final week of performances for the Manatee Players Production of The Sound of Music by Rodgers and Hammerstein. The musical plays through October 9.  Performances are Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $11 for students. Tickets may be reserved by calling 748-5875 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and one hour before curtain on performance days. They are also  available on the Manatee Players’ website: www.manateeplayers.com. All performances are at 102 Old Main Street.

5. Tickets are on sale now for the "Empty Bowls" luncheon to fight hunger. Guests can select a handcrafted bowl to keep and enjoy soups provided by local restaurants, fresh bread, dessert and entertainment. Some of Bradenton's best restaurants are participating in the event Oct. 20 at the , 1816 9th St. West, and on Oct. 21 at 8131 Main Street, Lakewood Ranch. Tickets are $20 and available online or by calling 941-749-0100.
