5 Things You Need to Know Today: September 12

Chamber events helps bring in clothes for the homeless, health expo offered Tuesday and Get Down Downtown resumes on Thursday.

1. kicks off its exhibition season Tuesday at 9 a.m. with paintings by the top watermedia artists. The Florida Watercolor Society's 40th Annual Exhibition features 100 paintings juried by internationally known artist John Salminen. The exhibit showcases work by renowned artists from all over Florida including ArtCenter members and instructors. 2. The Manatee Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly Business After Hours on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Community Coalition on Homelessness, 701 17th Ave. W. Everyone is encouraged to bring a new or clean gently used pair of blue jeans which are in great demand. Members and prospective members are invited to enjoy complimentary appetizers and the very best in quality networking. There is no charge to attend. 3. Manatee’s third annual Wellness Expo is set for 6 p.m to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at Woodland—The Community Church, 9607 State Road 70 East. Health and wellness vendors and Manatee County healthcare providers will offer health screenings and tips at more than 100 informational booths. There will be wellness-based activities and demonstrations, including complimentary exercise classes and special demonstrations for kids, teens, adults and seniors.  Admission is just $5 and free to school district and county employees with a valid ID.

4. Get Down Downtown returns for the season on Thursday. Enjoy libations, food, and friends with live music on Old Main Street from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Downtown Bradenton. Coordinated by the Old Main Street Merchants, this event benefits a different non-profit organization each month. For information call 941-744-2589.

5. The will discuss redistricting at its work session Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. Also on the agenda: wetlands regulations.
