70-Year-old Pedestrian Killed After Walking in Front of SUV

A 70-year-old Woman was killed late last night after she walked in front of a Ford Expedition travelling down U.S. 301.

Alice Overton, of Palmetto, was pronounced dead at Blake Memorial Hospital shortly before midnight, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Overton stepped out on to the road in front of Dwayne Hampton, 52, who was driving a 2001 Ford Epedition east on 301 and approaching a steady green traffic signal at the intersection of Ellenton Gillette Road.

Overton was crossing U.S. 301 within the intersection from north to south and was struck on the right side. Hampton stopped and waited for emergency assistance. Overton was taken to Blake Medical Center by Manatee County Emergency Services.
