$723,000 Awarded to End Homelessness

The city of Bradenton and Manatee Glens are among several recipients of apporximately $723,000 in funds to help end homelessness in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

The federal money was awarded to the Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness, which in turn is handing out awards to individual agenices. Programs help groups that include single mothers, men with AIDs and the chronically homeless, among other groups.

Here is a list of agencies and awards:

• The Salvation Army - Sarasota F.A.I.T.H. program, $173,678 for transitional housing for homeless families;
• Catholic Charities Our Mother's House, $122,425 for transitional housing for single mothers and their young children;
• Catholic Charities, $81,503 for permanent housing  for single men with HIV/AIDS;
• Shelter Plus Care grants totaling $220,876 for the City of Bradenton;
• Supportive Housing Vouchers totaling $47,192 to go to Manatee Glens for chronically homeless individuals with substance abuse and mental health issues;
• $77,133 award to the Partnership to continue and enhance the Homeless Management Information System.

The federal dollars come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Continuum of Care Competition.
