Boy Hit By Car While Walking Toward School Bus: FL Highway Patrol

A 7-year-old boy was hit by a car while crossing a street toward a stopped Manatee County school bus Wednesday, FL Highway Patrol said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A 7-year-old Bradenton boy was hit by a car while crossing the street toward a stopped school bus Wednesday morning, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

A car traveling south on 5th Street East, driven by a 23-year-old Bradenton woman, hit the child as she turned left onto 61st Avenue East.

The child was facing north on the northbound sidewalk while crossing the intersection of 61st Avenue East at the time of the crash, FHP said.

The Manatee County school bus was stopped facing west on 61st Avenue East. The driver made the left turn despite the bus being stopped with its flashing red lights, a stop bar and stop signs, FHP said.

A crossing guard at the intersection's northeast corner blew her whistle at the car, causing the driver to stop.

Both the car and the child moved forward at the same time, causing the car to hit the boy, FHP said. The car came to a stop at the intersection facing southeast.

Manatee County EMS checked out the child, who was uninjured, at the scene.
