Braden River High to Honor Fallen Soldier Before Friday Night Football

U.S. Army Spc. Patrick Lay, a 2008 graduate, had been a member of the high school football team.

U.S. Army Specialist Patrick L. Lay II, who was killed in Afghanistan last month, will be honored Friday for his service to his country prior to Braden River High School’s football game against Palmetto High.

Lay — a former football player and a 2008 graduate of Braden River High — was killed from injuries received in an IED explosion on Aug. 11, 2011. He was 21.

Braden River High Principal Jim Pauley, faculty, staff, students and Lay’s family are expected to take part in the ceremonies which will be held prior to kickoff. During the 7 p.m. ceremony, Lay will be recognized as an American hero and a special member of the Pirate family.
