Bradenton Police Officer Involved In Shooting Death During Kidnapping Call

The Bradenton Police Department said one of its officers was involved in a deadly shooting after responding to the call on Saturday afternoon.

A Bradenton Police officer shot and killed a person following a foot chase after responding to a call on Saturday afternoon, according to the department.

A department release states that at approximately 2:15 p.m., officers responded to a call regarding a kidnapping complaint at a residence in the 300 block of 20th Street East.

After officers arrived at the scene a foot chased ensued, resulting in the shooting in the 1800 block of East Manatee Avenue, according to the report.

According to Bradenton Police officials, the officer was not injured, and he was placed on administrative leave following the incident, per standard procedure in cases of deadly force.

The identities of the deceased as well as the officer have not been released.

Officials say this is the first fatal officer-involved shooting for the Bradenton Police Department since Aug. 4, 2008.
