Bradenton Police Receive Grocery Gift Cards for Residents
Bradenton Police Department given over two hundred $25 Publix gift cards to be distributed by officers to residents who have immediate needs

The Bradenton Police Department was recently given over two hundred $25 grocery gift cards to be distributed to neighborhood residents in need. The University Park Women's Club and an anonymous donor contributed $5400 worth of Publix Gift Cards to the police department where they will be handed out to Bradenton police officers. The officers can use those cards at their discretion for individuals and families who have immediate needs for food and other grocery items.
"We are grateful anytime the Bradenton Police Department can serve as a bridge between struggling members of the community. Distribution of the gift cards will be tracked and measured for success of this outreach program," said Police Chief Melanie Bevan.
Job loss and other economic crises associated with the coronavirus could increase the rate of food insecurity among Manatee County residents from 13.2% in 2018 to 17.6% by the end of the year according to Feeding America's "Map the Meal Gap" interactive study.

"We are proud to support the efforts of our local police officers as they work to make the residents of Bradenton both safer and more secure," said Vicki DiPaolo, President of the University Park Women's Club. "Police officers often see first hand who is in need of food and often provide assistance from their own pockets."
