Coast Guard Rescues 5 People, 1 Dog Near Sunshine Skyway Bridge
The 24-foot boat became disabled Tuesday night, as thunderstorms swept through the region.

Five people and a pet dog were rescued Tuesday night by the Coast Guard, after their boat became disabled in bad weather.
Coast Guard crew members were contacted at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, by Seatow about a 24-foot boat disabled three miles west of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge Tuesday.
Seatow contacted Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg because of a band of thunderstorms that swept through the region. The disabled boat had a broken fuel pump.
"The Coast Guard highly recommends boaters to check weather before heading out on the water," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Omar Arrieta, a search and rescue watchstander at the sector. "Weather can be unpredictable and can take a turn for the worst while on the water."
A 45-foot Response Boat from Coast Guard Station Cortez arrived on scene. The five people were taken on board and the boat was towed ashore.
