Deputies Search for Clues in Home Invasion

Man abducted Lakewood Ranch resident from his home, stole his car and then burned it

A man kidnapped a Lakewood Ranch resident after forcing his way into the victim's home and ransacking it Sunday, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported.

Deputies with the Criminal Investigation Division are searching for the man accused of home invasion, false imprisonment, grand theft auto and arson. 

According to sheriff's reports, the unknown man rang the victim’s doorbell and forced his way inside the home, holding the homeowner against his will.

The suspect then ransacked the residence looking for personal items to take. The suspect loaded the items inside the victim’s vehicle and ordered the victim into the vehicle.

The suspect eventually released the victim on the side of the road at the intersection of Lorraine Road and University Parkway. The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The vehicle, which had been set on fire, was later found at the plaza at Market Street and University Parkway.
