Driver Shot, Car Riddled With Bullets

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office was called to the hospital, where the motorist – with a bullet wound to the head – had driven to for treatment.

The Manatee County Sheriff is investigating a report by a 19-year-old shooting victim that his car was strafed with bullets when he was driving his maroon Cadillac to the store late at night.

According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to Manatee Memorial Hospital just after midnight Sunday, when the gunshot victim drove himself to the hospital.

Perez suffered a "grazing gunshot wound to the left side of the head," according to the report from the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said that his Cadillac, parked at the hospital, had multiple bullet holes.

According to deputies, Perez said that he was driving to the store in the 1000 block of 60th Avenue Terrace West when he passed a group of people. He said that someone in the group started shooting.

Units had been called to that area just after midnight on Sunday, April 7, but did not find anything suspicious. Deputies then received the call from the hospital a short time later.
