BRADENTON, FL — A deadly crash involving a tanker truck and a car on U.S. 301 near 44th Avenue East shut down the highway’s southbound lanes for hours Thursday morning, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

Around 4:30 a.m., both vehicles were heading north on U.S. 301 — the car in the left travel lane, the sedan in the outside left turning lane.

The truck driver, a 39-year-old Tampa man, tried turning left onto 44th Avenue East from the left travel lane, driving into the path of the car and overturning onto it, FHP.

The truck came to a stop in U.S. 301’s southbound lanes with the car directly beneath its trailer.

The car’s driver, a woman whose age and city weren’t released, was pronounced dead on the scene by Manatee County EMS. Thr truck driver was uninjured in the crash.
