ELLENTON, FL — Starting Monday, crews will permanently close 19th Street East under the I-75 overpass, Manatee County shared on Facebook.

The Florida Department of Transportation is reconstructing the interchange at I-75 and U.S. 301 from a partial cloverleaf configuration to a diamond design. In addition to reconfiguring the existing interchange, the project also calls for enhancements along three U.S. 301 intersections — at 51st Avenue East, 60th Avenue East and 19th Street East — and widening I-75 from State Road 64 to new ramps at the Manatee River, according to the project’s website.

The road construction project, which starts just north of the Ellenton Premium Outlets and goes as far south as SR 64, is estimated to cost $145 million and should be completed by 2025.

The permanent closure of 19th Street during this construction is required for the state to build two new bridges over the Manatee River and for the final configuration of the new U.S. 301 interchange, according to Manatee County.

19th Street East west of I-75 will end at a cul-de-sac at the interstate. East of I-75, 19th Street East will merge into 18th Street East, the county said.
