FHP to Target Pedestrian Violations Tonight

According to a news release, troopers will be looking for pedestrian, bicycle and motorist violations that occur at or near intersections.

Beginning today, March 1, the Florida Highway Patrol will begin Operation P.E.D.S. (pedestrian education and enforcement detail) on U.S. 41 between State Road 70 and Bayshore Gardens Parkway.

This pedestrian education and enforcement detail will commence at 6 and conclude at 10 p.m.  

According to a news release, troopers will be looking for pedestrian, bicycle and motorist violations that occur at or near intersections.

The purpose of this detail is to reduce pedestrian and cyclist related traffic crashes, a news release said. 

During year 2012, the Florida Highway Patrol investigated 12 pedestrian fatality crashes in Manatee County.
