MANATEE COUNTY, FL — Detwiler’s Farm Market, a family-owned grocery chain with locations throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties, is planning to open its seventh location.

The new store will take over about 43,000 square feet in the Braden River Plaza at 4502 E. State Road 64 in eastern Manatee County, Sam Detwiler, president, said in a video announcement posted on social media.

The space was previously home to a Winn-Dixie supermarket.

The store is expected to open next fall.

“Some people might ask, ‘Why are you putting another one here?’ Our locations that surround it are packed and we’re trying to make more room for more customers,” Sam said.

His father, Henry Detwiler, CEO, expressed excitement about the new store.

“I feel like a farmer. I’m planting seeds and I just can’t wait to see the seed we’re planting here,” he said.

The brand got its start in 2002 as a roadside produce stand. Detwiler’s opened its first brick-and-mortar location in 2009.

Today, the chain currently has three brick-and-mortar locations in Sarasota, as well as stores in Venice, Bradenton, and Palmetto.
