Free Family Fun: Manatee YMCA's Healthy Kids Day Set
Bradenton's Riverwalk will serve as the venue for Saturday's Healthy Kids Day event, which offers free activities for families.

BRADENTON, FL — Manatee County families looking for something to do this Saturday may want to set a course for Bradenton's Riverwalk. That’s the location for the Manatee YMCA’s “Healthy Kids Day” event, which features free activities meant “to inspire kids to keep their minds and bodies active.”
Set to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event is expected to draw about 5,000 people to Riverwalk. Healthy Kids Day is the YMCA’s “national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families,” Manatee YMCA explained in a media release.
The activities featured throughout the day are meant to motivate families to develop healthy routines at home. The Bradenton kids day event will feature an obstacle course, free fishing clinic, kids crafts, a DJ, foods for purchase, exhibitors and more. YMCA membership specials will also be offered during the festivities.

According to the Y, the only activity that requires pre-registration is the fishing clinic. That’s because kids who participate will receive a free rod and reel.

YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day is celebrated at nearly 1,300 Y’s across the country. The event coincides with the end of the school year for good reasons, Y officials say.
“When kids are out of school over the summer, they tend to be more sedentary and less healthy,” said Sean Allison, president of the Manatee YMCA. “Healthy Kids Day is a great way to kick-off the summer with ideas for keeping active and eating healthy over the summer months. The end of the school year doesn’t have to mean the end of physical activity, enrichment, socialization, or learning.”
The special event, Allison added, is also the Y’s way of giving back to the community by offering fun for the entire family.
