When/Where: Friday, noon to midnight; Saturday 10 a.m. to midnight and Sunday noon to 7 p.m. Midaway armbands available throughout the weekend for unlimited rides. At the Manatee County Fairgrounds, 1402 14th Avenue West, Palmetto.
Why go? The fair is a showcase for the best of Manatee County. Th 96th annual fair, known as the "Star Spangled Year" features exhibits, vendors, livestock shows and auctions, competitions, the midway, a variety of entertainment and, of course, fair food.

When/Where: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Manatee Civic Center, 1 Haben Blvd, Palmetto.
Why go? One of the largest craft fairs in the county, brings in award winning crafts people from across the country exhibiting and selling items such as folk art, furniture, wood items, toys, dolls, bears, clothing, jewelry and food, including homemade fudge.
Pricing: $6 per person, children get in free. Half-priced admission with the donation of a canned good. Coupons available.
When/Where: Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Divine Excess Gallery, 1125 12th St. W. Village of the Arts.
Why go? Colorful floral themed paintings by mentally challenged adult artists, fanciful bird and flower motifs by Rev. Hugo Pocaro, brilliant vintage jeweled floral crosses by Zoe Von Averkamp. For more information call 941-747-1320.
Pricing: Free to go, spend as much as you like.
MANATEE RIVER ORCHID SOCIETY SHOW AND SALE
When/Where: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Manatee Convention and Civic Center, 1 Haben Blvd. Palmetto.
Why go? This American Orchid Society (AOS) Judged Show includes a display of award winning orchids. Vendors will have an array of orchids for sale. Visitors are welcome to bring a camera.
Pricing: Admission is $4. Parking is free.
